How to avoid Procrastination.

As a student, are you a victim of procrastination?

Do you delay doing your work until the last moment, or even end up not doing it all?.

Here are some tips to help you avoid procrastination.

  • The first thing to do before you start a task is to clear your desk. Remove all pictures and personal items so that you do not get distracted. Make sure you have all the things you need near you such as paper, pens, calculator, textbook, dictionary so that you do not have to get up and look for them. Switch off your mobile phone.

  • Secondly, when you begin a task or project, think positively about it. Tell yourself it will be interesting, or benificial, or worthwhile. If you give away to negative thoughts and think the task is going to be boring, it will be boring.

  • Next, set yourself a realistic target, not an impossible goal!. Divide your work into small parts that can be completed in a reasonable time. For example, aim to read five pages of your textbook, not a whole chapter. Reward yourself when you reach a target with a short break or a change of activity.

  • Finally, avoid the 'great escapes'. These include watching television, talking to friends, and doing small tasks like sorting out your notes or big tasks like rearranging your room. You can use these activities, in moderation, to reward yourself when you complete a task.

If none of the above suggestions work, you could be procrastinating because of your work is too difficult. In that case, you might need to get help to complete your task.
